Baseball and Tree Work: How Individual Effort Fuels the Team

Baseball and tree work seem very different, but they share one big truth: both demand that you show up—not just for yourself, but for your team.

People say baseball is a team sport, and it is. But there are moments when the game becomes completely individual. When a ball is hit right at you, no one can make that play except you. When you steal second base, it’s your lead, your jump, and your decision. And when a pitcher is on the mound with the bases loaded, that moment can feel painfully lonely. Same for the hitter standing alone in the batter’s box.

These moments prove something important: the team only succeeds when each person handles their own job with focus and commitment.

Tree work is the same. We can’t help our crew or reach the day’s goal if we don’t first come prepared as individuals. Safety, attitude, and effort all start with the person—not the group.

So today I want to salute the individuals who show up ready, day after day. Those who compete, stay sharp, and give their best so the team can win. Your mindset makes the world better. Thank you.
